What does this program offer me that similar programs don’t?
My SeniorCare Edvantage is a unique business education partnership. Courses are designed and delivered by University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire health care administration and business faculty in consultation with My InnerView. Together, our organizations have serviced the educational and business needs of the long term health care profession for over 40 years. Our instructors complete training in effective distance education delivery and our developers are top-notch.
Do I need an associate degree or bachelor’s degree to take courses?
No. However, it would be helpful if you have taken some post-secondary coursework and/or have experience in the health care industry.
I have a degree in health care administration. Are these courses for me?
You may find that these are good refresher courses, especially for the NAB exam; however, these courses are not targeted towards people who already have a degree in health care administration.
How do I decide if I should take a course for credit or non-credit (CEU)?
Your personal and professional objectives need to be considered.
Credit: A credit course is recorded on an official UW-Eau Claire transcript. If you complete the certificate for credit, your transcript with show completion of the My SeniorCare Edvantage Health and Aging Services Certificate. Some states require credit courses for individuals applying for licensure and some companies only reimburse for credit courses.
Not for Credit: You earn CEUs for each course completed and receive a certificate upon completion of the program. You do not have to apply as a Special Student and do not establish an academic transcript. The program is less costly when taken for CEUs—and the registration process is simple.
Are you accredited?
The program is an extension of the UW-Eau Claire Health Care Administration NAB accredited undergraduate program. National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) is the leading national authority on licensing, credentialing, and regulating long term care administrators. Passing the NAB exam is a requirement for licensure in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Each course will be submitted for approval for NAB CEUs. The Health Care Administration program is part of the College of Business. The college and its programs are accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), a mark of quality achieved by fewer than 15 percent of all business schools in the world.
How do I know if these courses meet the licensing requirements for my state?
The requirements for licensure as a nursing home administrator vary by state. The NAB site includes a link to each state’s licensing board.
Why is there a special fee attached to the credit courses?
A great deal goes into making this program available to you. My SeniorCare Edvantage is a self-funded program which uses the dollars it generates to cover web-based course development and revisions, instructor salaries, technology support, and program marketing. Cost is comparable to other online courses within UW System.
Is financial aid available?
No. Financial aid is only available to degree seeking students.
How much time will I need to put into a course?
You should expect to put in approximately 10-15 hours per week per course, including reading, online discussions, self-quizzes, videos, and other projects.
I want to sit for the NAB exam next summer. Can I finish the program in a year?
Yes. New courses are offered every four weeks. By taking one course at a time, you can complete the entire certificate in less than a year. We know you are busy and that certain times of the year are busier than others. You don’t need to take the courses in sequence. You can skip one or two courses and return at a more convenient time.
I took a management and/or accounting course at a community college. Do I still need to take the Essentials prerequisite courses?
Possibly not. The program coordinator would need to review your course transcripts in order to make a decision. You would need to work the My SeniorCare Edvantage program coordinator to get an answer.
Can I apply health care administration courses I took somewhere else toward the program?
You would need to work the My SeniorCare Edvantage program coordinator to determine whether the courses are comparable.
Can I transfer My SeniorCare Edvantage courses to another school?
As with the transfer of any course, you would need to contact the school to which you are transferring to learn which courses transfer and how they may transfer.
Does the program require visits to campus?
The My SeniorCare Edvantage course and certificate program are totally online with no required campus visits.
How many people will be in my class?
Teaching online is very labor intensive. While some programs have unlimited enrollment and use assistants to support faculty, we strive to keep our classes between 25-30 students.
